Various Japanese community events are held in Brisbane. A new festival, Sakura Fest, will take place on March 8. Ms Erika Abe, one of the event organisers, talks about the festival and her language exchange activities on the day.

Wellers Hill State School in Brisbane is a public school that provides bilingual education in English and Japanese. Erika Abe helps its students with their homework and does tutoring for other students and adults.

Four women in the Japanese community including Ms Abe decided to organise a new event to provide a place where people can learn more about Japan and make connections through culture and languages.

According to Ms Abe, many people in Brisbane study Japanese at school and are interested in Japan. A Japanese food truck operator Honami Mori feels the same way. Ms Mori is also one of the four organisers.

Sakura Fest will take place on March 8 from 2pm to 8pm at Wellers Hill Bowls Club. For more information, visit Sakura Fest Brisbane on social media.
