AFL legend and proud Noongar man, Nicky Winmar, has been announced as the official ambassador for Ngarra Jarra Noun 2025, an annual cultural event grounded in truth-telling, remembrance and community healing. The event will return to Victoria Park in Naarm (Melbourne) on Sunday, April 13 and promises to be a powerful day of ceremony, reflection and unity.

Nicky Winmar’s involvement in the event brings deep personal significance to this year’s gathering. A trailblazer both on and off the field, Winmar is widely known for his proud stance against racism in 1993, when he lifted his St Kilda jersey and pointed to his skin in defiance of racial abuse. That moment became a defining image of resistance and pride for mob right across the country and will continue to be for generations to come.

Now, decades later, Winmar continues to lead with strength, lending his voice and presence to a cause that resonates deeply with many across community honouring the lives lost in custody and supporting the families.

Presented by the Indigenous Sports Network, the 2025 Ngarra Jarra Noun event will mark its third year, bringing people together through cultural performances and workshops, a healing ceremony, storytelling, live music and healing markets.

Ngarra Jarra Noun invites the community to stand in unity with First Nations families and to heal together. With Nicky Winmar at the forefront, the 2025 event is set to be one of the most powerful and unifying yet.

In this special interview, Nicky Winmar chats to NITV Radio's Kerri-Lee Barry about what the event means to him and the power of coming together as a community to heal.
