A body, believed to be that of the missing Pakistani student Mohsin Awan, has been found in waters off a Newcastle beach, four days after he was .
A high tide plunged two students into water when they were taking selfies this week at the beach on the coast of New South Wales.
Police confirmed the body was discovered about one kilometre offshore at around 8am Wednesday morning.
Mr Awan, the 23-year-old University of Newcastle student, was taking “selfies” with another person when huge swells swept them off rocks near Nobbys Beach on Sunday.
Rescuers were able to save one of them but could not find Mr Awan.
The Pakistani High Commissioner to Australia Ms Naela Chohan and Consul General Mr Abdul Majid Yousfani have expressed sorrow over the incident, but also cautioned students and newcomers to be careful.
Ms Chohan expressed grief over the incident and requested everyone to pray for the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani Consulate in Sydney is in touch with Mr Awan’s family back home as well as the DFAT, NSW government, police, and University of Newcastle.
Consul General Mr Abdul Majid Yousfani has expressed sorrow over the incident, but also cautioned students and newcomers to be careful.
“We are sad to hear that this incident occurred,” Mr Yousfani says.
“We are all in grief but this is a very important time to highlight the significance of safety and precaution. People should follow safety announcements to make sure such incidents do not occur.”
Condolence messages and prayers have been circulating on social media for Mr Awan, who started university education in Australia in 2016 after coming from Lahore, Pakistan.RELATED CONTENT
