Pop singer Charli XCX has spoken out about her love for the LGBTIQ+ community - while performing onstage in Russia.
The made the remarks during a concert at Izvestia Hall in Moscow last week, with footage emerging on social media in which the star says that the “majority” of her friends are members of the LGBTIQ+ community - a statement that earns cheers from the local crowd.
“Sometimes,” she continues, “it’s very hard to be a member of that community.
She adds: “I’m very grateful for everyone showing love, showing support and coming down to the show.”
“To feel included in the community as an ally is really powerful,” she said.
“I love the LGBTIQ+ community so much because they f**king keep my career alive.
She continued: “I’m so lucky to have been able to collaborate with so many incredible artists from the community, too.
“The community means a lot to me, let me just say that.”
A slew of LGBTIQ+ celebrities have previously voiced their solidarity with members of the LGBTIQ+ community in Russia. Back in 2017, bisexual singer Halsey on social media following a concert in the famously anti-gay country, including the lines: "All these kids love me but Russia don't f*** with me / Cause I wrote some songs about women who f*** with me."
