Chinese-Australian artist uses calligraphy to engage with tradition
Published 16 April 2025, 4:19 am
Bryan Mew, who immigrated to Australia at a young age and grew up in an environment with little exposure to the Chinese language, says he once questioned the value of learning Chinese. Today, he reconnects with his cultural heritage by recreating oracle bone script and bronze inscriptions from 3,000 years ago using brush and ink. Through his art, he hopes to offer younger generations of Chinese-Australians a path to self-discovery and cultural reconnection.
